1. Identify the text (article, essay, photo, advertisement, video, performance) being analyzed: Advertisement

2. Is there a title?  Y or N   Does it appropriately reflect the content of the essay? Explain or make a suggestion: Yes, it does reflect the content of the essay because the title says ‘Are you beach ready?’ and the essay discusses the body standards women face having to have a ‘perfect’ body to be beach ready.

Write the thesis statement: ‘After looking at this Ad and analyzing it more, it made me think of the many people who were possibly offended by this horrible ad and putting the idea in peoples head that a “beach ready” body has to look a certain way.’

3. Does this draft effectively satisfy the definition of rhetorical analysis as set out in the assignment? (An essay that breaks a work of non-fiction into parts and then explains how the parts work together to create a certain effect—whether to persuade, entertain or inform.) Explain: Yes, in the essay they explain the audience, purpose and how the choices made by the creators of the ad will affect its audience.

4. How does your partner discuss the author’s strategies, purposes, and approaches? Reference at least one example that does so effectively and one that needs work:

                           i.          Works well: they state in the beginning what the purpose of the ad is and explains how the phrase they chose ,‘Are you beach ready?’, encourages people to lose weight to be beach ready.

ii.          Needs work: discuss other aspects  of the ad in more detail like mood of the advertisement, colors and tone how they used this to try to persuade their audience.

5. How does your partner discuss the content (what the text is about)? Is it effective? Reference at least one example that does so effectively and one that needs work:

                           i.          Works well: Explaining how harmful this type of advertisement can be by giving examples of people’s reaction and why the ad is controversial.(going into detail with social issues)

ii.          Needs work: maybe putting the ad in the first paragraph to introduce it to the readers right away.

6. Is the composition (how the text is constructed) effectively reviewed? Reference at least one example that does so effectively and one that needs work:

                           i.          Works well: placing the examples after explaining how harmful this ad can be to women.

ii.          Needs work: placing the description of the ad in the first paragraph.

7. Does the analysis use a chronological or spatial approach to describe the text? Yes

8. Identify examples of the following in the analysis:

                           i.          Logos (logic):

ii.          Pathos (emotion): Having women explain how this ad makes them feel as if their  body isn’t perfect

                         iii.          Ethos (character):

9. Does the conclusion sufficiently wrap up the analysis by reflecting on the main points of the essay? Explain: Yes, they brought up the main points again from the body paragraphs(which is why the message of the ad is harmful) and even suggest that it wouldn’t cause a strong reaction from the audience if they promoted it in a different way.

10.  Does the selected text properly adhere to APA style? Yes or No .

No
If not, what needs fixing? The title needs to be above their, name, course and date and it needs to be centered. Page number needs to be the top right of page.
